Biography

Harry Sneed graduated from the University of Maryland with a Masters Degree in Public Administartion and Information Sciences in 1969. His work has been as a Programmer/Analyst at the U.S. Navy Department for three years, as a Programmer, Analyst and Instructor at the Volkswagen Foundation for three years, as a Systemsprogrammer and Project Leader at Siemens for four years, as an independent Test Consultant for two years, as a Software Laboratory Leader for the SZAMOK and SZKI Institutes in Hungary from 1980 to 1989, as a Reengineering Project Leader at the Union Bank of Switzerland in Zurich from 1989 to 1996, as a test and reengineering consultant for two years, and as a Research Consultant in Italy and England where he participated in three ESPRIT projects - TRUST, METKIT and DOCKET. In the past five years he has worked as a tool developer and QA consultant for a Viennese software house - SDS - developing distributed software applications for banks and as a reengineering consultant and lecturer for a German software reengineering company - CaseConsult. Since the year 2000 he has been teaching Software Engineering at the University of Regensburg, XML and Software Cost Estimation at the University of Sannio in Italy, and Software Maintenance & Reengineering at the University of Szeged in Hungary.

Harry Sneed has published more than 160 technical articles both in English and German Computer Science journals and proceedings, in addition to 13 books in Germany, including two on testing , one on maintenance and four on Reverse- and Reengineering. His last book was on Object-Oriented Testing, appearing in 2001 in Hanser Verlag. His book on Object-Oriented Software Migration appeared in 1999 with Addison-Wesley. His latest book written together with his son on Web-based System Integration with XML just appeared this year in the Bertelsmann Verlag. Now he is working on a book on Software Product Management for the Dpunkt Verlag. His articles have appeared in the IEEE Software Transactions, the IEEE Software Magazine, ACM Software Engineering Notes, GI Informatikspektrum, Wirtschaftsinformatik Zeitschrift, Object Spektrum, Handebuch moderer Datenverarbeiting, Online Zeitschrift für Datenverarbeitung.

In addition to his publishing work , Sneed has developed more than 60 different Software Engineering Tools for maintenance, project calculation, software measurement, software testing, software reverse & -reengineering, software wrapping and software auditing and has directed more than 15 large reengineering projects. At the international maintenance conference in Montreal 2002 he received an award for writing the best paper. He is currently in the program committees of the International Conference on Software Maintenance, the IEEE Workshop on Reverse Engineering, the IEEE Workshop on Program Comprehension, the IEEE Workshop on Website Evolution and the European Conference on Maintenance and Reengineering. He organized the European Conference on Software Maintenance 2002 in Budapest and is now organizing the international Conference for 2002. In Germany, he is cochair of the GI-Fachgruppe for Software Management and serves in the GI committees for Metrics, Test and Reengineering. Last year he was elected to the Technical Committee of the IEEE Computer Society. His main interests are in Software-Metrics, -Maintenance, -Migration and -Test. He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society, the GI and the ACM.
